My question involves a marriage in the state of: uncontested divorce

I filed a separation agreement in late 2007 I believe and after a year (which is required in NY) I hired a lawyer to file for divorce. I sat and waited about a year with no real word from my lawyer on what was going on. I would occasionally call and they said everything was moving along. By early 2009 I had become frustrated and started calling weekly wanting some kind of solid answer on what the state of my case was. During this time my ex had become very irritated with me wanting to know why I was not moving the case forward.

Finally I went down the the court house myself and after an all day affair I found that after the first filing of the case nothing had been done. I called the lawyer and we had a very unpleasant conversation, he claimed the courts had made a mistake blah blah blah. At this point I just wanted the case over and done with so I could move on with my life. The county clerks office recommended that the lawyer file some form that showed the lawyer had made a mistake and the case had to be reset so to speak ( I apologize for my lack of proper terminology. It has been a while since this all happened and I am not familiar with the court system).

So now it is another year later. I can track the case and I can see that a RJI and a NOI where filed 4-9-2009. This was done obviously just after I had discovered that the case had been filed incorrectly. The last time I talked to the lawyer they were sure the case would be done early this year ......and now it is late June and I see that there is a disposition deadline of 7 11 2011.

Basically it is constantly difficult to contact the lawyer, when I do they just yes me to death that everything is on track and I find it difficult to talk to them with out become frustrated. I just want this done so I can move on with my life. Is this normal for court cases to go on like this ? does the disposition dead line mean it will be done in early July ? Is there anything else I can do to move my case forward?

Any help/information would be greatly appreciated!
