    My question involves a child custody case from the State of: VA
    I was wondering how to go about taking away my daughter's fathers parental rights.

    The easiest way? Get him to consent to stepparent adoption.

    Got any facts to share?

    I offered to drop the child support that he owes me if he would sign away his rights he said no way. I am not currently engaged or i would try that.

    in case something ever happens to me I dont want him to get custody of her he is a bad influence in and out of jail does drugs and drinks. He hasnt been in her life except for a few visits here and there owes me almost 9000 in child support. I just want him out of our lives.

    Most states won't allow you to sign away Dad's rights unless there is a stepparent willing to adopt. And remember, you chose that "bad influence" to be the father of your child.

    Lack of support can be a reason for the STATE to terminate parental rights.

    Common grounds across states for filing a TPR petition include;
    physical or sexual abuse,
    child neglect,
    parental abandonment,
    failure of a parent to maintain child contact or extreme disinterest,
    felony conviction or incarceration,
    failure of parent to provide support,
    metal illness

    Be sure you have documented proof of unpaid child support and criminal records because it will help your case.
    Check out your local public law library for resorses and reference cases. The research you put into your case will pay off. Good luck.
