Default Collection Agencies on My Credit Report

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Mississippi

Hi. I am a 20 year old college student.

I started college last year. I applied for the student loans and everything, but it turns out that I still need to take out a loan of about $5000 to pay off the rest of my tuition. This led me to apply for loans from different companies, all of which denied me.

Now, I know that the most likely reason for this is because I'm not old enough to have sufficient credit, but things are different for me. I recieve Medical comp every month, which is supposed to help with education and whatnot. That goes into my bank account. I also have a two credit cards, both of which I keep in good standing. I pay my own cell phone bill also. Shouldn't this give me a pretty good credit standing? I don't have a job because of a medical condition.

Anyway, after I was denied the loan, I decided to look up my credit report. My Transunion report showed 42 counts from a collection agency from the hospital. I had a really bad problem with my health when I was like 17 - 18 years old, but I also had Medicaid and Medicare to take care of all of the bills.

So, it surprised me that I have these on my credit report. I don't know much about credit law and all of that, but I'm sure that I those 42 accounts are bringing down my credit score. Am i right?

The thing is, they're all from the same company that used to harass us with calls. WE'd tell them that we had Medicaid/Medicare to pay them, and they'd apologize and say they wouldn't call us anymore.

Is there anything that I can do? I want to get some legal info for options so that I don't make a wrong move. I really need help with this. Thanks!

I hope I provided enough info. If there are more details needed, let me know. :-)

As far as I know. We'd always get something from Medicaid telling us about recent doctor visits, hospital payments, etc. They'd always tell us how much they'd paid, and how much we owed. We always owed $0. I only had to pay the little bit for medicine costs. I kept those paid.

I also noticed that some of them were from years ago, like pediatric bills, surgery bills, and stuff like that. We'd also get bills from the hospital, but they were always 0.00. It seems weird that they'd send us bills with 0 dollar amounts and then send things to a collection agency.

Does no one have any help for me? I really need help. I need to pay of my tuition so that I can go back to school next year. Besides, I don't want this stuff sitting on my credit report and damaging things if it's not supposed to be there.
