My question involves personal property located in the State of: Ohio
My mother rented a room to a friend of her sons about 4 years ago. She had co-signed a car loan for him at that time, which he later defaulted on. Leaving her a $5000 debt against her credit. He moved out, left a lot of tools in the garage. Now he is back and wants all his tools. When she told him he owed her for the car loan against her credit, he just said if she didn't give the tools back to him, he was taking her to small claims court. She obviously co-signed in good faith, does that mean she can't hold him responsible for the $5000 she now is responsible for? Also, does she have the right to keep his tools, because they were left for so long and because of the debt?
