    Default 30-Day Move Out Notice

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Michigan

After being notified I was laid-off, I immediately went to the landlord's office to give 30-days notice.

To my knowledge if I submitted a notice today (6/16/2011) I would be able to move out on (7/16/2011). They told me that the earliest I could move out was the end of July (7/30/2011).

    Can anyone advise me?

What does your lease say about terminating a month to month tenancy? If your lease says you must give the notice on the first or last day of the month, the landlord is correct. If the lease is silent, you are correct.

Thank you for the information. I'll look for my lease later tonight and see what is written on it.
