My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: Georgia
This is a case where overpayment is not based on misrepresentation or failure to disclose material facts.
I Received an overpayment of 13k form Georgia because they payed me when I was suppose to be collecting from Washington (I did not know this and apparently they did not either). Georgia conducted a telephone hearing and determined that I was not at fault, but still had to pay back the money. I was given the opportunity to fill out a form stating my financial position for the consideration of forgiving the debt. I explained that I am in school with student loans and I have a mortgage to pay as well. After receiving the denial for forgiving the debt I called Georgia back explaining that I still don't have the money and I don't know how to repay them, that was about 6 months ago. Today I received a letter in the mail that if i didn't pa the money back that they would seek a civil suit. I will graduate the 20th of this month. I have student loans to pay back and a mortgage. I don't know how Im suppose to pay back that kind of money. I payed taxes on the money as well. Thank you for your time.
