My question involves criminal law for the state of Maryland.
I'm from DE but I got arrested yesterday in Kent County MD after being pulled over, I had half a blunt in the car. I didnt recieve any paraphenalia charges because I had no bag/bowl/papers/etc, just the half blunt. Im going to guess and say that it was maybe .35 grams, a very small amount. I understand that the max I can get is a $1000 fine and 1 year in jail. I'm 23 and have a clean record, never been arrested before. My problem is I really would like this to be expunged from my record so it wouldnt hold me back in a competitive job hunt. I definately would like to avoid real probation. I was told I could possibly recieve probation before judgement, which I guess would be my best bet. I really dont have money for a lawyer and wondered what the likelihood of me getting the probation before judgement if I stick with a public defender. Like I said, it was a small amount and I've never before had a misdemeanor/felony, barely any speedding tickets. Any help would be appreciated.
