Post U.S. Soldier Getting Divorced In Another Country

My question involves a marriage in the state of: Ohio/Germany

Let me explain my situation first before getting to my question. I was in the Army and stationed in Germany when I married a German national. We were married in Germany. We separated prior to my leaving the country and returning to the US. After a couple years separation we are finally getting divorced through the German courts. This is an uncontested divorce with no division of property or assets. The divorce should be finalized in a couple weeks. I am currently a resident of Ohio, I was a resident of NY when we were married.

Now my questions is if there is anything I need to do here in Ohio once the Divorce is completed in Germany. My wife never lived in the US, both the marriage and divorce were handled in Germany. Any advice would be very helpful.

Your divorce is valid without further action or registration; however you may want to make sure you have a certified translation (along with a copy of the original order) just in case a circumstance arises in which you need to document the divorce. Issues like this can even come up in estate administration, with potential heirs challenging the validity of a subsequent marriage.
