    Default Shoplifting Wamart

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Washington

I was caught shoplifting at Walmart with about $50 worth of merchandise I was completely cooperative with the Loss Prevention and the officer when he arrived. The LP didn't trespass me and I wasn't arrested, but taken into "custody" as the officer was talking to me about what was going to happen. He told me I would receive a court summons in the mail and to appear for the arraignment. MY questions, at the arraignment should i plead guilt or not guilt? I was obviously caught in the act and also told I was seen on camera.. Should I ask for a public defender and talk about my options for settling this so I don't have to take this to trial or have this be drawn out any longer than necessary... My biggest concern is having this appear on my record.. So is there anyway that I can get the charge lessened or have the charge eventually taken off my record? The officer told me the charge is theft in the 3rd degree because of the amount I stole, so what (roughly) will my punishment be? I feel like the biggest idiot, loser, and this will definitely be the one and ONLY law-breaking experience of my life! Any other advice or tips you might have would be so greatly appreciated!! I just want to deal with this and move on....
    Thanks!

Given you were caught red handed, you can still get a lawyer who can bargain for a lessor offense. It may be worth a shot.
