Default Roommates Move Out, Leave Me Left on Lease. Can I Fight This

Roommates move out in the middle of our lease and I cannot afford both of there parts, so I have to move out. I am faced with lease fees and debt collections. Can I fight this, so I do not have to pay all of the collection costs? I know all three of us have been hit by collections as well. What can I do?

Your responsibility to the LL is not changed. I suspect you were all considered to be liable both jointly and severally so the LL could sue any one of you or all three of you for the total amount of the damages. If so, there is very little you can do about what is owed to the LL.

Where you would have an action would be against your roommates. I presume you had an agreement they would each pay a certain amount. If so, due to their breach of the contract, you have damages. Since their actions were the underlying cause for the damages, you go after them.
