My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: Illinois (Kane County)
I have a question I'm hoping someone can help me with. I entered a construction zone (45mph) and received a ticket for going 70. Construction hadn't started so vehicles and people weren't present although I'm aware that doesn't matter. It was during rush hour on I-90 out of Chicago. I was in the left lane going the flow of traffic, yet was the unlucky one that got the ticket. I will be leaving the country in a week (June 8th) and will not be getting back until August 2nd due to getting married, honey moon and helping my fiancée move back with me.
This ticket says I'm required to be in court on July 8th, which is during an already bought honeymoon trip. I called the county circuit court and they told me they can't do anything about it until the ticket comes in, which takes up to 10 business days (I'll be gone in 5). I'm curious if I should have a family member appear for me, with proof that I'm abroad, and ask for a continuance? I know if it is not granted a warrant will be out for my arrest and I'll lose my current teaching job (and probably future ones).
I'm normally a law abiding citizen and am unsure if I should hire a lawyer in these last few days to help, or just go with the hope that I can get the continuance (moved a month later). I don't know what the odds are that the judge would/could decline this continuance. Thanks for any help!
Edit: This ticket was received yesterday...did not procrastinate in asking for this.
