My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: AB, Canada.
I recently got into a rear end/side swipe accident on an elderly couple going FAR slower than the speed limit. Long story short I was at fault (in my opinion not completely) and charged with careless driving and caused about $20,000 in damages to the company vehicle that the company I'm employed under will have to pay (so my boss says).
I was about to quit that job b/c it was not a good job, lots of employees constantly going in and out and some verbal abuse from the higher-ups. I was going to quit within the week because I had found a better job where I was going to be hired on the spot which was a guarantee. But now, I'm not so sure if I should quit because of this accident.
There were no injuries aside from spraining my thumb and both vehicles were insured.
If I were to quit right now, 4 days after the accident, could they charge me with anything for quitting right after I damaged their vehicle? My boss said he would not fire me and I would most likely not be fired by the head of the company because he would put in a good recommendation for me when they do their investigation, but he doesn't know that I don't like him or the job and I was about to quit.
So all in all, I'm just wondering if there is anything that I could be charged with by just bailing after I damage a company vehicle when I am at fault. And I do live in Canada so I'm sure there could be differences in the way it could be handled.
Thanks for any information!
