My wife works for a large retail company. She was hired as a department supervisor. She has very few employees working for her so she does much of the work herself. A while back the store had hired a Minority male to work in her department. He has a bad back and can't lift very much and most of the product in the dept are heavy. One day there was a lot of freight to handle and he couldn't handle it. She went to the district manager who was runnin the store becuase they don't have a store manager and asked him to get someone else in the department to help that can handle the heavy lifting. She went on to tell him that this person is a good worker and can do other tasks within the department and she didn't want him getting hurt and she needs help getting things done. The District Manager is also a Minority male.
A couple of days later the District manager approached her and told her that the worker had told him that she was not doing her share of work. she couldn't understand where this was coming from because many people in the store have complimented her and th accoplishments since she was hired.
A couple of days later the worker approached her and told her she was being transferred to another department and he had been promoted to take her place.
She went to the District Manager and asked what was going on. He told her he thought she was overwhelmed and rather than fire her he would transfer her. She was furious.
She spoke to another manager who is brought in from another area to help run the store from time to time and she told him what was said.
He said he was involved in the conversations leading to her transfer and he said termination was never discussed. He said they agreed she should be moved because she is a woman.
If this doesn't sound like reverse race discrimination, it at least sounds like gender discrimination to me.
She now goes to work fearing for her job because of these issues.
What should she do???
