Good Afternoon,
I am a UK national who just received his brand new E26 Green Card in the mail. Unfortunately, it had a small error (1 yr off on 'Resident Since' date) so I need to file a I90 and have it corrected. I am doing this with the lawyers my employer arranged for the green card. At the same time, some major restructuring at work is causing a lot of entropy in my professional situation though I do not think my job is at risk. I am also being aggressively courted to change jobs by multiple other companies. Unless I have to, I do not wish to change jobs before my replacement green card gets to me (3 months odd). However, one must plan for contingencies so I would like some clarity on what would happen to my permanent resident status if-
1. I am laid off and take employment with another company while USCIS has my GC
2. I chose to jump ship to another company while USCIS has my GC
My reading of the letter of the law is that a i90 receipt plus copies of my existing green card should mean I have no problem. Scenario 2 might cause problems at the naturalization stage (I am not likely to ever go in for naturalization in any case - I wish to keep my access to the NHS). Is this correct?
Is there any way my existing employers could get USCIS to revoke my GC while it is with them for correction? This is very unlikely but one must define the worst case scenario.
Thank you very much in advance for any assistance. For obvious reasons I cannot ask my current lawyers this because they are employed by my employer.
