    Default Shoplifting at Wal-Mart

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Nevada

I was recently caught shoplifting in Wal-Mart, for $41 worth of merchandise. The LP took me into a back room, and took all my information. The police were never called, but I signed a Summons Program paper that had a "Reno P.D." header, and told me about how the retailer can choose to press criminal charges. So my question is, what are my possible consequences, and what actions should I take? LP seemed really cool throughout the process and asked me if i was attending school, and also informed me that these types of charges can result in loss of scholarships. He also informed me that I would possibly be receiving a letter from Wal-Mart in the future. I was told not to come back to the store that day, and then released.

You will get a letter from WalMart's lawyers demanding $300 or so. That's independent of the criminal charges. You may in a bit hear from the Reno PD with the criminal charges. Of course they're cool about it. They're job is to catch thieves and they got one.
