My question involves an arrest warrant from the State of: New York
My girlfriend, who lives in California, had to obtain her dog from watchers in New York who were denying her it's return. She saw them walking it, and took her dog from them, removing it from the leash, only touching the dog. Two months later she received a "Readiness to stand trial notice" from New York. They were charging her with "2nd degree harassment with physical contact." She cannot afford a lawyer or another trip back to NY. She spoke to an attorney in CA who advised her to send a letter telling them this, and not to attend. She now believes a bench warrant will be issued. Her attorney mostly said don't go to NY, and take care of it sometime when you have the funds. She's very worried that if she gets pulled over for a traffic violation, she could be arrested, etc. Again, lawyer told her 99% chance won't happen, because it's a minor violation.
We're looking for a second opinion. Again, she has never received an actual summons to appear, or has been served anything.
Thank you for your response.
