    Default How is a Child's Legal Name Chosen if Parents Aren't Married

    In Alabama, if a couple are unmarried and have a child does the child legally carry the Mother's name or the Father's name. Paternity is not a question in this situation.

    Mom gets to choose. Dad can petition the court for name change. Judge decides.
