Default Not Notifying SSA (Social Security) About Name Change

My question involves name change laws in the State of: California

Its just a simple question. If i get a name change then leave the country to live overseas for a decade or so. (but plan on coming back) can i just notify the SSA whenever I feel like? I mean the proof of the name change has a date and i will keep my original documents. But does it even matter? What other use is it besides credit score and taxes?

You would notify them when you want them to process your name change. We have no way of guessing your motives.
