    Default Internship Sponsor Organisation

    Hi!

I am a UK resident (German citizenship) and have received a grant by a US foundation to be undertaking an internship with a NGO in California this summer. The internship will take 8 weeks and the grant is paid from the foundation to the NGO which will then pay it out to me. I am a full time undergraduate student in the UK.

I am somewhat confused about the whole J1 application. This NGO is a relatively small organisation and I do not quite understand what exactly a 'sponsor organisation' is. Since I already know who I'll intern with, do I still need to find another sponsor organisation and make them sponsor me to be interning with my NGO?

Can my NGO be my sponsor organisation or should I aks the foundation to be my sponsor organisation?

    Thanks a lot,
    regards
    Joe

    Default Re: Internship Sponsor Organisation

If your organization is sponsoring you for a J1, then it is sponsoring you for a J1. If it is not sponsoring you for the J1 and you require a J1 for the position, then you will have to find a way to obtain the J1 through some other organization; if the NGO at issue does this regularly they may have a partner, if not that could be quite problematic to accomplish.
