Default Web Site for Naming and Shaming - Can People Sue

This question relates to slander and defamation on the web so opinions and details of the laws from everyone in all countries would be welcomed.

I am working on a web site where people can upload details of events or individuals that have annoyed them or caused them harm. If specific details or photographs are posted on the web site - can the individuals being cited sue the owner of the website itself?

I'm assuming that sites ssuch as YouTube must have this sort of issue - and wonder how they are treated.

I am from UK so UK law particularly of interest.

    Thanks

You need to re-read the previous response.

Seriously - defamation laws vary from State to State in the US, and certainly from country to country. There is no one "on the web" location, so your question needs to be specific.

And really - nobody is going to spend their time doing homework or researching various laws within any given country without having a good reason to do so.

    You see, that's YOUR job.
