My question involves a security deposit in the State of: New Jersey
I rented a house in NJ a while ago with 6 months agreement. The agreement ended and I am on a month-to-month now. I just realized that the NJ law mandates the landlord to provide a notice about the security deposit. Since the landlord didn't provide me such a notice, I sent him a notice stating that I will use the security deposit as next month's rent. He didn't pay any interest for me either. He now retaliates against me. Today being May 5th, he showed me a letter dated May 2nd asking me to vacate on May 30th and he asked me to sign it. I said no. He doesn't want to provide the bank details where the security deposit is kept.
How should I handle this situation? What are my rights?
