My question involves criminal law for the state of: A 16 year old was at an underaged drinking party. They themselves were not drinking, however most were. When trying to leave, a car needed to be moved but the owner was passed out from alcohol. Other people began running on top of the car and causing damage to it. Caught up in the moment the 16 year old punched and broke the glass of the side mirror. Then that person and five other people pushed the car up the driveway and lost control of it into a small ditch. No damage was sustained to the car from this, but in total, the side mirror was broken, shifter knob stolen, towing fee charged, and minor damage to the soft top. The owner's father wants to press charges instead of letting everyone pay to get the car fixed. This person is top in their class and has a very good shot at getting good scholarships to very good schools. Their family is extremely tight on money and can not afford a good lawyer or anything else. They were making their start at a rags to riches story. I don't think they want to pursue any felony charge. However, could they be tried as an adult for this in North carolina. And could this ruin this person's future?!
