My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Washington
So I received my traffic ticket in the mail from "Fife Photo Enforcement." I go to the specified website to view the video of me not making a complete stop when turning right at a red light. In all good conscience, I'm not going to fight the fact that I did it.
HOWEVER
The designated FINE AMOUNT on this ticket is $124.00
Fife traffic code 10.60.070 states:
The fine for infractions committed pursuant to the provisions of this chapter shall be the same as the penalty listed in RCW 46.61.050, but in no event shall the penalty exceed the amount of any fine assessed for parking infractions within the city. (Ord. 1629-07 § 1, 2007).
Fife traffic code 10.24.110 which covers parking and loading states:
Violation of any section of this chapter shall constitute a parking infraction, subject to a monetary penalty in the maximum and default amount of $20.00, not including statutory assessments. (Ord. 1662 § 1, 2008).
It seems to me that the fine should be $20, since the photo enforcement fine can't be higher than any other parking fine in the city.
Are they just overcharging me, or are they saying that statutory assessments amount to $104? I can't find any schedule of statutory assessments anywhere.
The notice I received specifically states that the fine is $124.
Does anybody know how they come up with this amount?
