Default How to Get Bank Charges Credited Back

My question involves a banking matter in the State of: Ohio

We went in to our former bank last week to close our account because of an overdraft fee of $30.00 when it was overdrawn by $0.52. Which in my opinion should have been a call from them asking if we had any change laying around the house that could be deposited to avoid the large charge. We found out that we had been charged $6.95 per month since we opened our account 6-7 years ago, which shouldn't have been charged because we were "banking direct" customers. We had a few overdrafts that were a result of less than $6.95 overdrawn. So my question is do we have any possibility to get $6.95 x 12mths x 5yrs or are we screwed? And do we have a possibilty of getting back any overdraft charges back that were overdrawn by less than the $6.95?

Thanks in advance everyone for the responses,
    Chuck

When you asked the bank "we're 'banking direct' customers and should not be charged $6.95 per month for 6-7 years", what did they say?

The bank was the one that told us we were "direct" customers and we shouldn't have been charged the fee. Then when they called us to let us know how much they would reimburse us they said the could only go back 4 months.

So $6.95 times 4 is $27.80 plus .52 cents is $28.32 that should be in your account. This will bring your account current and since it was there mistake, they will have to credit you the overdraft fee of $30.00. There is nothing you can do about the last 7 years of payments but be wise, learn from your mistake and check your balance regularly.

So $6.95 times 4 is $27.80 MINUS .52 cents is $27.28 that should be in your account.

No, it's plus. The charge of $6.95 deleted the 52 cents and made the account negative $6.43 so the overdraft fee of $30.00 then was applied making the account negative $36.43.

If the bank is going to give the $27.80 credit for the 4 months of being charged $6.95, then the account will be credited the 52 cents as will as crediting the $30 overdraft fee.

Correct me if I'm not thinking right.

Here is how I'm reading it:

We went in to our former bank last week to close our account because of an overdraft fee of $30.00 when it was overdrawn by $0.52.
That means, the account was over drawn by $0.52, the bank charged them an additional $30 as an overdraft fee.

So now the account balance is:

    - $0.52 - $30 = - $30.52 (minus $30.52)

    The bank has agreed to a credit for 4months X $6.95 per month, ($6.95 X 4 = $27.80) so,

    - $30.52 + $27.80 = - $2.72 (minus $2.72)

Let's say the bank will agree to refund the $30 overdraft fee, that brings the balance to:

    - $2.72 + $30 = + $27.28

Your right, I thought it was .52 left in the account. But regardless, the bank will credit the overdraft fee
