My question involves criminal law for the state of: massachusetts
I was recently at a fire, and was not not drinking, but everyone else was, we saw flashlights through the woods, so we ran. I jumped into the back of a truck but when i noticed that the flashlights were right behind me i got out of the car to talk to the police. The car with a truck full of kids left without me. I went to talk to the police, they brought me over to another group of kids, who i had never met before. These kids were searched and found with possesion of alcohol and marijuana. These kids said to the cops that they had never met me, they were drunk out of their minds, while i was sobering and communicating effectively to the police. One of the cops was going to let me go, but he asked another cop, who had just gotten there if he should also write me up and the cop said " what the hell why not". I asked the cop why i was getting a summons and he said because i was in the car. I told him i was not in the car and was at least 300 feet away from the car when they came. He told me he didnt want to answer my questions.
Is it likely that i will get off the hook? or get the full punishment? will this effect my college financial aid or other academic related things? this was my first offense of any sort. any help at all would be incredibly appreciated.
