My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: CA
I was hired for a temporary position in CA after losing my previous job of 4 1/2 years. When I was hired for the temp position, the employment agency specified that the position was full-time and would eventually become permanent after a three month probationary period. I was told that I needed to report to work immediately by the agency as the employer was extremely busy and needed me right away. As a result, I turned down several interviews for permanent full-time work with employers that were closer to my home.
Upon working at the company I learned that it is in the process of shutting down. I have only worked eight hours once since taking the job as usually I am sent home or asked to come in later. This is extremely frustrating because the cost of gas I pay to go down there for three hours or so is more than I make.
On my first day, I was asked to type up some documents for the employer, but he cut his hand and bled all over the sheets of paper. Needless to say, I was very grossed out. I told the agency, but they ignored me. Not sure if this is relevant, but the employer smokes. I am allergic to smoke and am constantly blowing my nose and taking allergy medication as my allergies have been acting up since the first day I started this position.
I had previously been collecting unemployment insurance and I would like to keep collecting my unemployment until I find more suitable full-time employment where I'm not allergic to the environment, but am afraid to quit this temp position because I am afraid I will no longer be eligible for benefits. I have worked about 16 hours so far (including last week) and am supposed to work 5 hours tomorrow. I really feel taken advantage of by the agency and I would appreciate any advice on this matter.
