Default What is an Accessory Aiding in the Commission of a Felony

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Vermont.

A little while ago i met this person at a party and was asked by him to accept a package at my residence no questions asked, with the possibility of financial compensation. Time went by and the package didn't show up so i figured it went to the post office and gave a person i knew a ride there to go get it. he went in and i was ripped from my car by police and detained and questioned. apparently the package contained a large amount of marijuana. i knew nothing of the contents or the illegallity of the situation. i have a court date for acessory aiding in the comission of a felony in vt. What should i expect? I have no prior record for anything at all, i am a hard working responsible person with my shit together who made a mistake. I dont even smoke marijuana. What does this charge even mean? what could the consequences be? please, any advice would be greatly appreciated im very scared, stressed out, and have no idea what to expect. thank you

13 VSA S.2 states that an accesorry aiding in the commission of a felony is punishable as a principal to that felony. That is regardless of whether the person committing the felony is charged or convicted. Do you have a specific charge? You certainly need an attorney for this type of charge. The defense that you didn't know the exact contents of the package will not fly in court. Common sense tells us that someone wanting to have something shipped to an address not associated with them, and willing to pay for it is not kosher.
