My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California
I purchased a multi-family home in 2007, and the previous owner signed a laundry room lease with a company in 2004. And the lease has a term of 5 years and expired in 2009, but there is a clause saying that the lease is automatically renewed for another 5 years if neither party notice the other to terminate the lease. However, when I purchased the multi-family home, I don't know anything about this lease nor the automatic renewal clause. So now the company claims that the lease is still valid for another 5 years after 2009 (until 2014). My question is whether the automatic lease renewal applies when the new owner is not aware of the lease ?
