My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: New Jersey

I moved into an apartment I had found off Craigslist. I signed a sublease agreement and paid a 1 1/2 month deposit to the roommate who was moving out of the condo.

I moved out of the apartment 2 months before the end of my lease term because my roommate did illegal drugs and constantly had strangers in the apartment. I felt uncomfortable living there. My personal space and possessions were violated on numerous occasions. I had even come home to strangers sleeping in my bed Neither he nor the roommate who left the condo disclosed this lifestyle to me.

I let my roommate know almost a month before that I had planned on moving out, giving him plenty of time to look for a new roommate online. However, he has been unable or unwilling to find one.

I have a few questions about my situation:
1) Does my roommates terrible habits amount to a situation which allows me to get out of the lease early without owing my last month's rent?

2) Do I still have to pay my last month's rent even though I have been out of the apartment for 2 weeks and he has failed to mitigate the damages by finding a new roommate?

3) I paid a deposit directly to the roommate who moved out; however, I do not know if landlord laws apply to a subleasor. I know that he has not kept this deposit in an interest bearing account and has in fact used this money already. Is this a violation of the law because this individual is acting as my landlord in this case?

4) If my deposit is not returned in full within 30 days of my having vacated the apartment, what recourse do I have with my subleasor?
