Default Choosing Who You Live with

My question involves adoption law for the State of: Virginia

Hello . I am fourteen turning fifteen in September . My Mom left my dad when i was younger...and i hadn't seen him for nine years so i decided to leave Kentucky and come to Virginia to get to know him...it started off fine but now six months later i am being forced to do all the work outside and me and my dad get into arguments all the time...i get everything i need but we still have our differences...now, he is moving and i don't want to move because i have reallly adjusted here and for once i'm not getting into trouble and everything...if i don't want to live with him then my Dad will send me back to live with my mom however ; i do have a family in the city i live in now that will take me in. I was wondering if there is any law that i can be emancipated from both of my parents and live with the other family that can take me in so i can continue to do better .

No, there is not a law that will allow you to move in with someone other than your parents. You can not be emancipated. However, you could try speaking to both of your parents and see if they will allow you to live with these other family members. However, if they say no, then you will have to move where your parents determine is best for you and adjust.

Nonlegal opinion: Who's to say that you won't do as well or better in the new place? The answer to that depends largely on your attitude and willingness to try to make it a good home for yourself.
