I am working on a technical project and need someone to consult with regarding technical issues. After searching a found a PhD candidate who has done extensive research in the area I am interested in. I want to be able to pay this person for their time. However, he is on an F1 visa and currently is working 40 hours this summer with another company. I thought we could just catch him up when his job ends and he returns to school but he is a teaching assistant and apparently that qualifies as full time employment during the academic year. Isn’t there a way that I can pay this guy for his time without running afoul of any student visa rules?
