Default Credit Card Sent to Lawyer for Payment

Three to four years ago my husband was out of work and we got really behind on our Chase credit card. I should have called to work something out with them but I didn't and they sent us to collections through their lawyers who in turn sent us the papers that stated they were going to sue us. I then called the lawyer and set up a five year payment plan. We have paid this bill on time every month for over 3 years and after this months payment the actual credit card will be paid off. We are still supposed to pay the lawyer for another 18 months to a total of over $10,000 for their fees.

Since they never had to take us to court and the only thing they did was send us some papers is there any way I could possibly get them to cut down their fee so I wouldn't have to pay them the $550 per month for 18 more months? I haven't tried calling them yet I just thought I could get some ideas before I do.

    Thanks.

You are free to contact them and to try to negotiate different payment terms. We don't have any access to any correspondence with the collection firm, nor to any repayment agreement(s) you have signed, and you also didn't follow the instruction to identify your state, so there's not much we can say.
