My question involves criminal law for the state of: OHIO
I was recently cited for selling alcohol to a minor where i work. I'm under the impression that the MAX penalty for this is 6 months jail time and $1000 fine. I was wondering what is likely to happen because i dont have a record and this is my first offense. Is it better to plea guilty? No contest? Also, I cant seem to find any information on what could happen to the owner of the liquor license. Could his license be suspended? Revoked? This is a new business and the first (and hopefully last) offense for him also. Does he have to go to court? All the officer told me was that he will recieve a packet in the mail in about a month that will explain whats going on. A month? I do have to appear in court.
Side note: unfortunately I DID check the kids ID, and sold it to him anyway. Our age sign posted on our alcohol is actually the sign for tobacco which is 1993 not 1990, so not thinking hey this person just turned 18 and the alcohol age is 1990, I sold it to him. Does this make the situation worse? Could the owner of the store get in trouble for not having the age sign properly posted?
