My question involves criminal law for the state of: Arizona
I was charged with Domestic Violence 4 years ago and I was told diversion was the way to go even though I wanted to fight the charges as self defense. After having spent $5k on a defense lawyer, I was out of money and told what I had paid would only get me to a diversion plea and not enough to go to trial to fight it. It was explained to me that if I accepted diversion that all charges would be dropped. I completed all the requirements of the program and honestly I really enjoyed the classes. I was considering purchasing a .22 chipmunk rifle to shoot with my 7 year old son and I was told I was banned from owning or purchasing a gun by a friend. The judge never said I would lose my right to own a gun in the future. I was basically told by the judge everything would go away once I completed the classes. I am so upset to know that I may have lost a right...I would have never agreed to diversion knowing that. I would have fought the charges. Any help would be great....and thank you for anytime you spend answering my question.
