Default Looking to speak with prosecutor

In ca.(Riverside). Is the only way to speak with a prosecutor, to attend court and plead not guilty. Then speak with the prosecutor between that day and the upcoming court date.
I"m told on the first trial date, all that is discussed is a plea. Or can I go into court(or the prosecutors office) before my first court date and speak with a prosecutor.
I would like to see if a prosecutor would drop the speed on a ticket by 2 mph, so I could plead guilty to a lesser fine and still elect to take traffic school.
Not sure of the proper procedure to accomplish this.
    Any info would be appreciated.

If you so desire, you can try calling the prosecutor's office to see if the prosecutor will speak to you.
