Is this scenario considered retail fraud?:
1) Purchase an item from an online store, who also has local stores in the area (They are a national retailer)
2) Obtain a price adjustment by calling the store's 800-number during the adjustment period (usually 14 days), if the item went on sale.
3) Goto the local store and return the item with the order slip from the online order, which only states the original price paid when it was purchased.
4) Sometimes the local store will call the 800-number to verify if a price adjustment was issued on an order, and then only refund the adjusted price; but most times the local store does not verify if any price adjustments were made.
Is it my fault if the local store doesn't check with it's online store?
Can anything happen to me if I don't tell the local store that I received a price adjustment before I returned the item?
Who has responsibility here - the store or me?
In my opinion this is a glitch in the store's computer systems.
