Default Deposit and Partial Rent to Be Returned

My question involves a security deposit in the State of: Pennsylvania

There was a fire in the landlords home and it destroyed all of our belongs. She did not find a place for us to stay after the fire. The Red Cross put us up for several days. We lost everything we had. I did have renters insurance. We want compensated for displacement and partial rent and our deposit. The fire marshal said it was accidental, but she had a heat lamp and straw for some baby animals in her home and the heat lamp fell into the straw and started the fire. There was nothing left. We lost one of our animals in the fire. Please advise what we can do to recover the deposit and partial rent for the month, as we need this for our deposit on another place the end of April.

Have you filed a claim with your insurance company yet?

Your landlord has 30 days from the termination of your lease to return your security deposit - your lease was terminated by the total loss of the residence. If she does not return it within 30 days, you'll need to take her to court. You'd do well to consult an attorney in your area.
