My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
So here's the story.
I was laid off my job for a 3 month hiatus. I filed for unemployment and still had a claim open from the previous year, it would run out in May.
I found a quick day gig and was told I would be paid as an Independent Contractor for 300$ for the day. It is a newer smaller company. Boss said I would not be taxed, or gone through payroll, or be 1099'd for the next tax period. It was as close as under the table as I could figure. He said if any eyebrows were raised, just claim they payed me for services from awhile ago.
He said if I stayed on he'd pay me as an equipment rental fee. Same way of payment.
I realize this sounds very shady. I wasn't sure about it either. But he gave me good assurance. But now here I am holding the eligibility letter.
Questions on back are...
The reason why you did not provide the info required to file your new claim. This info may include: Your last employer name and address, a letter or form from Social Security Administration verifying the Social Security Number assigned to you, proof of wages you earned, answers to any other questions required to file a claim.
Not sure if I'm in legal trouble here or if they are just trying to see why I re-file onto my existing claim. Please help!
