Default Being Investigated for Food Stamp Fraud

My question involves criminal law for the state of: virginia. do i have to turn over information about my finances if those finances come from another state? what are the penalties for food stamp fraud in virginia? and can they really prosecute me for food stamp fraud if I am the one whom informed them that I received the money, doesn't my telling them prove I was not intending on fraud?

Yes you need to report all income. The outcome of the investigation may be you are barred from receiving benefits and you may be compelled to repay the fraudulently obtained benefits as well as a 10-20% penalty. In addition, your case may be referred to the US District Attorney for federal criminal prosecution.
First offense criminal penalties are usually multiple years of probation, repayment of the fraudulent amount and additional fine.
