My question involves independent contractors in the state of: Michigan

Hello,

An old boss of mine contacted me a few weeks ago asking if I would be interested in working two road show events on a weekend. He told me he would pay me $60 for each show ($120) and $30 for Gas money. I agreed and did the road shows. Today, I received the check in the mail only receiving $100.00, he later emailed me explaining that I had broken the Demo table (provided by the company) and a serving spoon. He charged me $50.00 for the damages and took it out of the check that he owed me.

First of all, I didn't break anything. The table was perfectly fine and everything was perfectly fine. Also, if it was broken where is the evidence??? he didn't provide any evidence for the broken items yet evidence of the replacement costs. I also, didn't sign anything.. the only thing I have to provide evidence for is a text message asking me to work for him and what he would pay me.

So my question is, should I ask him for evidence and what can be done?

thanks
