My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: NJ
My story:
Graduated w/my Master's in Dec. 2009. Couldn't find work, a friend worked at a temp agency and got me a position doing data entry (definitely NOT my field of work!) but I took it because I needed income. I wound up getting some additional responsibilities through the job and enjoyed working there. In January 2011 they had budget cuts and could no longer afford to keep me on. I informed my agency who told me they may have something available in the future. I told them I would focus on finding full time, perm work in my field and that was the last contact I had with them. I went on unemployment and things were fine until last week I received a notice saying I had a claims examination because my employer said I "quit and moved out of state." I obviously didn't quit, and I didn't move. I was looking for work in other areas where I had connections, but have never actually moved. I have kept a record of my jobs applied for (at least 3 a week, always, per week) and registered with another temp agency (who I assume didn't have any work, I never heard from them and their website lists no jobs I might even remotely qualify for).
So my question (questions, I guess) include what a claims examination is like. Is my employer present on the call as well, or just the examiner? I feel like I've always had my ducks in a row and am nervous about it, so any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone had any advice from a similar situation, or if they have an idea whether my previous employer has a legitimate claim against me, that'd also be appreciated.
