My question involves criminal law for the state of:
For some strange reason I decided to shoplift in ny (which i never done before) and got caught at Jcpenny along with my friend. the total amount of the things that i took came up to about $130. The cop that came didn't charge us and said she didn't want to ruin our lives nor our records with this. We weren't arrested but instead she gave us a ticket with a court date and told that we were to pay a court fine on our court date. on the ticket it said we were being charged for trespassing. the cop said this would not go on our record and there was no paper work involved (besides the paper worked filled out by JCpenny to charge us a bill for the items we attempted to steal). I'm confused because i thought if you had to go to court period you had that put on your record. can somebody please tell me if this is going to be on my record? This has to be the most dumbest thing i've ever done. I have a clean record and have never been involved with the law before.
