If there is anyone with any information, please let me know. The story: Over a year ago, I was in a Tennessee Walmart with a former friend who took some items worth about $90. The items were hidden in a zipped bag that she was carrying. Before entering the store, I placed my wallet and car keys in her bag b/c I didn't want to carry in a purse. We parted ways for a less than a couple of minutes and when we "met-up" again, I went to the register to check-out. I asked her for my wallet and she handed me her entire bag while she stood around talking on her cell phone. Thinking nothing of it, I paid for my items and proceeded to leave the store when we were approached by three people asking for something that was in the bag that I was carrying. I thought that it was just a mistake until my "friend" kept walking like she didn't even know who I was. When the three people introduced themselves as LPOs I knew something was wrong. They took my bag with my purchase inside and searched my friend's bag. Inside the bag they found the items that they were looking for and could feel the blood drain from my face. I tried to tell them that it wasn't me, but they said that they had me on camera (apparently not but we were both wearing jeans and white t-shirts). They took down my info, snapped my pic, and called the cops. I sat there humiliated and scared for 30 mins until they let me go with a citation to appear at the local jail to be booked. I'm not sure where my "friend" went, but I left her. A month later, after I missed the scheduled booking date, (I was a day late) the officers at the jail, said that they had no paperwork on me and that I should contact sessions court. After about 45 mins of trying to find someone with some answers, I was told to check back later, b/c my name wasn't in their system. They told me that I could file a civil suit, but I just want my name cleared before I proceed. I contacted a lawyer and they checked for warrants, court files, etc in my name. Nothing was found. He told me to relax and if something came up, call him. It's been over a year and still no phone call, letters, or anything from the courts. Where do I go from here? I don't want a stupid surprise arrest in the future. How long does Walmart keep surveillance tape which could be used in my defense?
