My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: North Carolina
I was going 52 mph in the 45 when an officer decided to trail me. He followed me until I was in a 35 mph zone, then turned his lights on and pulled me over. The ticket stated that I was going 52 in the 35, but I know that's incorrect. I turned onto the road behind another car (which I could identify if asked about it) that was going the exact speed limit until they got to a house and turned off. Soon after that, I turned onto a different road and THAT'S when the officer decided to pull me over. I had basically driven 3 miles before he pulled me over. I tried to dispute it with the officer, but he gave me a ticket and a brochure. The ticket has no information about what I should pay. It just has my information and the officer's information as well as going 52 in the 35 next to G.S. 20-141. The brochure is just general information about speeding tickets. I'm not sure of the legality of this, but I didn't want to go to court because he told me it'd be in the hundreds of dollars. I went online to pay the citation and my name isn't even in there! My citation number doesn't even come up. I have a court date, but I'm not sure what to do.
I'm wondering whether I could be successful in trying to dispute this in court or if I should just pay the fine by going to the DA. Basically, what are my chances of disputing this in court?
