Default Age to Move Out with Consent

I'm 16 and very soon I will be done with high school as I am finishing early so my question is can I move out with parental consent and I will be able to support myself financially the point is so I can go to college without having to live in a dorm I have researched and found mixed answers to this question.

In every state in the union the minimum legal age is 18.

So than how am I to go to College? Does the law actually forbid me from going because I can't move near to the college because my family lives far from a good College and I don't want to stay in a dorm

Luke, there may be an answer to your question (I think the other posters missed that you were talking about WITH consent, not without) but let me ask you a question or two.

First, why are you so determined not to live in a dorm?

Second, who is going to pay the rent, utilities, food etc.?

The answers will give us some ideas what options you may have.

Wow, I'm 2/2 on this thread.

    I do apologize, all.

I read "..out with permission" as "without permission".

    I'm sorry.

Okay for the first question I don't have any facts just my belief from visiting my half brother a few times(he stays in the dorm) and I believe being 17 in a dorm would not be the greatest decision as many would be above 18 and some into theirs 20s so I would rather not put myself into a position where I might be tempted to do something that I shouldn't.

To answer the second question I currently have 20000 dollars saved rounded down the college is 10000 a year and I would be getting a new job until I got the job my parents would pay for my bills entirely than they would be willing to just pay some as I don't want them to pay my way if they do not have too. I would be staying in my house if it was not for the fact that we live far from the college I want to go to and any decent college for that matter.

    Okay, sounds reasonable.

IF you have your parents' permission AND IF you can find a landlord to rent to you (not all landlords will rent to teens and the law will not force them to) it would be legal for you to move out. I think you might want to rethink the dorm in a year and so and it would probably be a good idea for you to have a roommate, but that's between you and your parents - and your landlord. But given the circumstances you have described, you should be okay. You will almost certainly have to have a parent's signature as a co-signer on a lease.
