My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: MD

Hi all,

We moved in at the end of last year, and shortly after wards the landlord moved a tenant into the space downstairs without telling us (we found out the day the gentleman was moving in.) When we signed the lease, it was under the terms that we'd be the only occupants in the house. Then after analyzing our electric bill over the past 3 months, it looks like there is only one electric meter for the whole house and I'll be verifying with the electric company this fact. I believe we have been paying the downstairs tenants electric heat and usage.

We have paid the landlord a deposit, but do not want to be taken advantage of, and want to break the lease. He has not been honest in his dealings with us and that is disappointing. what are our legal rights here?
