My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: Virginia
I was informed by two teachers at a daycare center/primary school that they were told by HR via their immediate supervisor that they were to clock out at the end of their scheduled 8 hour shift regardless of required work (lesson plans, preparing materials to send home, etc) left to be performed. They are hourly employees, and said they previously had clocked in hours in excess of the 'scheduled' amount taken off their paycheck, and now just don't bother staying clocked in because they know they wont get paid. The school has an explicit expectation that the work be performed off the clock, and it has been stated numerous times. Is this a violation of labor law? I will be glad to provide any additional info needed, thanks for any help.
