My room had wet carpet for a week before the university would even come to look at the problem. I placed a work order, checked on the work order, and contacted the person in charge of student housing, all prior to a response by the university. Over the course of the week, the room began to smell like mold. I went to the health center and was treated for symptoms related to mold exposure.
Is the university liable under gross negligence? I sent an email about the mold and water and while i was promised someone would be there soon, no one came until I said that the problem may fall under the gross negligence clause of the housing contract.
Please advise me on my rights and the steps I should take to protect them.
