My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
This was my first and LAST time shoplifting. I admit I was desperate and foolish, and I do intend to pay every penny of the fine. Through out the interview I was cooperative and honest with all the information I provided. The man who interviewed me gave me a civil suit report (pink slip), didn't call the police, and said it will not go in my criminal record as long as I pay the fine. Then he told me to go to court whenever I have a chance, but my boyfriend called the same store yesterday and they told him that I need to wait for a letter in the mail, and then go to court.
I don't know if I'm suppose to go to court, or wait for the letter. Is the letter necessary to appear in court? Which court am I suppose to go to (my city or theirs)? What happens if I don't go to court and just wait for the letter instead?
