My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
My son went in for a probation appointment and was found to be in violation. He had cash with him at the time. When my eldest son & I went to pick up his vehicle from the probation office and I asked for his wallet (I knew exactly how much cash he had on him at the time as his next stop was to pay for the registration on his car), the probation officer told us that my son had taken the cash with him to jail to put on his books while he was in custody. My son tells us that he was told by his probation officer that he was not allowed to take the cash with him to central booking and he was instructed to leave it in possession of his probation officer to give to his family when we picked up his vehicle. His court date was Friday….is it possible that the probation officer took his money and how do we go about filing a complaint to get the money back?
